How to find us

The Butterfly Conservatory is located near the tropical reserves around the Arenal volcano in Costa Rica just 30 minutes from the town of La Fortuna. This tranquil paradise is situated at the foot of the most magnificently active volcano in Central America. There are panoramic views of Lake Arenal, the largest lake in Costa Rica, and the surrounding area provides a sanctuary for an unimaginable diversity of Costa Rican plants, birds, insects and other wildlife. The streams feeding the lake are clear and crystalline, and provide abundant water for Costa Rica’s largest hydroelectric project, and lowland irrigation for the dryer Guanacaste area to the west. The lake is also a favorite place for boaters, fisherman, and windsurfers. With a temperate climate unsurpassed anywhere, Arenal can boast of average temperatures ranging between 83.8F and 68.2F the year round.
